As Fresh as a Daisy is a celebration of joy, optimism and the simple beauty of one of nature's most beloved flowers. Inspired by childhood memories of making daisy chains on warm summer days, the artwork captures the sense of innocence, happiness and carefree wonder that daisies have long come to symbolise.
Each flower has been individually hand-moulded from watercolour paper and delicately tinted with soft metallic pink watercolour. The daisies are arranged across a gently domed, asymmetrical heart, also formed from layered paper, creating a sculptural surface that lifts the composition away from the background. Gold centres catch and reflect the light, while selected flowers are raised on tiny plinths, producing subtle variations in depth, texture and shadow.
The heart-shaped form lends the piece a sense of warmth and affection, while the repetition of hand-crafted blooms creates a rich, immersive surface that rewards closer observation. As light moves across the artwork throughout the day, the flowers appear to shift and blossom, bringing the piece gently to life.
The title references the familiar phrase "as fresh as a daisy", which originates from the flower's daily rhythm of closing at night and reopening with the morning light.
