As Fresh as a Daisy celebrates the enduring charm of one of nature’s most cheerful and recognisable flowers. Inspired by childhood memories of weaving daisy chains and gathering flowers on long summer days, the artwork evokes feelings of innocence, simplicity and joy.
Each daisy has been individually hand-moulded from watercolour paper, creating a richly textured sculptural surface that brings the flowers to life. Gold centres catch the light and provide a subtle contrast to the soft white petals, while selected blooms are raised on tiny plinths to create varying depths, delicate shadows and a heightened sense of movement across the composition.
The flowers are gathered against a backdrop painted in Farrow & Ball’s deep Stiffkey Blue, a colour reminiscent of twilight skies and coastal waters. The rich blue setting enhances the luminosity of the white daisies, allowing them to appear almost illuminated as light moves across the artwork throughout the day.
The title references the traditional phrase "as fresh as a daisy", which originated from the flower's habit of closing its petals at night and reopening with the morning sun. Through its tactile surfaces, striking colour contrast and joyful repetition, the piece offers a celebration of renewal, optimism and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments.
