Part of the On Painted Wings collection, Awakening explores themes of emergence, renewal and quiet transformation. Hundreds of individually hand-cut butterflies gather in a flowing circular form, moving from vibrant pinks and corals through soft blush tones to delicate creams and whites. The composition suggests a gradual unfolding — a moment of transition where colour, light and movement begin to emerge from stillness.
The butterflies were created from an original watercolour painting layered with flowing marks, organic patterns and subtle touches of gold ink. Arranged by hand within the circular composition, each raised wing creates delicate shadows that shift throughout the day, bringing changing depth and atmosphere to the work. From a distance the piece reads as a contemporary abstract form, while closer observation reveals the intricate individuality of each butterfly.
The open centre acts as a place of pause and reflection, creating a visual sense of balance within the movement surrounding it.
