Beachcomber is inspired by a lifelong love of the coast and the simple pleasure of searching the shoreline for treasures shaped by the sea. Echoing memories of beaches along the South Coast of England, the artwork celebrates the beauty of shells weathered by tide, salt and time.
Each shell has been individually hand-moulded from pulped watercolour paper and carefully painted with layers of watercolour to capture the subtle variations of colour, texture and pattern found in nature. Mounted on tiny plinths that lift them from the surface, the shells cast delicate shadows that shift throughout the day, enhancing the sculptural quality of the piece.
Arranged in a gentle progression of coastal tones, from warm sandy hues to soft aquas and deep ocean blues, Beachcomber reflects the changing colours of sea and shore.
