Part of the On Painted Wings collection, Find Your Wings and Fly Away — Evening Light captures the quiet beauty of colour fading across the sky as day gently gives way to dusk. Created from hand-painted watercolour paper, the composition moves through rich violets and deep magentas into softer pinks and blush tones, evoking the shifting glow of evening light. Delicate touches of gold leaf catch and reflect the light, adding moments of warmth and luminosity throughout the piece.
Hundreds of individually cut butterflies gather in a dense cloud of colour before gradually dispersing into open space below. The transition from richly layered forms to lighter, more widely spaced butterflies creates a sense of movement, freedom and release, as though the butterflies are drifting gently beyond the boundaries of the composition. Raised from the surface, each folded wing casts subtle shadows that change throughout the day, bringing depth, texture and a quiet sense of animation to the artwork.
Viewed from a distance, the work reads as a vibrant abstract field of colour, while closer observation reveals the intricate individuality of every butterfly and the delicate hand-painted patterns from which they were created. The gradual movement from darkness to light echoes themes of transformation, possibility and personal growth, inviting a slower and more contemplative way of looking.
Created through repetitive, meditative processes of painting, cutting and layering, Find Your Wings and Fly Away — Evening Light reflects an ongoing exploration of sensory calm, restorative beauty and the emotional resonance of colour, movement and transformation. Designed to reward prolonged viewing, the artwork brings a sense of lightness, optimism and quiet wonder to contemporary interior spaces.
