Part of the On Painted Wings collection, Find Your Wings — Yin and Yang explores the delicate balance between opposing forces through hundreds of individually hand-cut butterflies arranged within the timeless circular symbol of Yin and Yang. Rich burnt oranges, copper tones and warm neutrals flow into cooling turquoise, teal and aqua hues, creating a visual conversation between energy and calm, warmth and serenity, movement and stillness.
Each butterfly has been carefully painted, cut and layered by hand, bringing subtle variations of colour, pattern and texture to the sculptural surface. Viewed from a distance, the work reads as a bold contemporary composition, while closer observation reveals the individuality of each wing and the intricate relationships between the many forms that create the whole. Raised from the surface, the butterflies cast shifting shadows throughout the day, bringing depth, movement and changing atmosphere to the piece.
Inspired by the idea that contrasting elements are not opposites but complementary parts of a greater whole, the work reflects the continual interplay between light and dark, strength and softness, action and reflection.
