Ramiro is a celebration of ornament, symbolism and slow, attentive making. Inspired by the decorative richness of jewellery, coastal treasures and folk art traditions, this one-of-a-kind wall sculpture transforms a ram's skull into a jewel-like object of contemplation, layered with colour, texture and meaning.
Built upon a sculptural resin form, the surface is meticulously adorned with hand-crafted polymer clay elements, crystals, pearls, beads and metallic details. Shells, flowers, bees, botanical motifs and miniature skulls are woven throughout the composition, creating a visual tapestry that rewards repeated viewing. Each individual element has been placed by hand, gradually building a richly embellished surface where no two areas are quite the same.
Deep cobalt blues, turquoise tones, soft golds and sparkling crystal accents evoke the meeting of sea and sky, while the symmetrical composition lends the piece a ceremonial, almost talismanic presence. As light moves across the surface, reflective details catch and scatter illumination, bringing the work to life with shifting highlights and subtle flashes of colour.
Created during a period of caring for both of my elderly parents, Ramiro emerged through a process that became both creative practice and personal refuge. The slow repetition of selecting, shaping and applying each component offered moments of focus and calm amidst uncertainty. In this way, the artwork embodies the essence of Decoration Meditation — beauty created through patience, presence and devotion to the process itself.
