The Golden One — Circle of Koi is part of an ongoing series exploring rhythm, movement and the symbolic beauty of koi swimming in flowing circular formations. Inspired by the hypnotic motion of fish moving through water, the composition creates a sense of continual motion, balance and quiet contemplation.

Each koi has been individually hand-painted, cut and shaped from watercolour paper before being carefully arranged into a spiralling circular flow. Intricate concentric markings and layered metallic detailing echo the reflective shimmer of water, scales and light, while also referencing the repeated patterns and natural geometries found throughout the organic world.

A restrained palette of copper, bronze, soft ivory, black and gold gives the work a calm yet luxurious presence. At the centre of the composition, a single radiant golden koi becomes a subtle focal point — a quiet symbol of individuality, guidance and inner light moving within the collective current.

Every form is delicately raised from the backing board to create depth, shadow and movement across the surface. As light shifts throughout the day, the metallic elements softly catch and reflect illumination, allowing the artwork to continually evolve depending on the viewer’s perspective and surrounding atmosphere.

Balancing contemporary paper relief with intricate decorative craftsmanship, The Golden One — Circle of Koi celebrates repetition, harmony and the meditative beauty of nature. Created through a slow and highly detailed process of painting, cutting, shaping and composition, the piece reflects an ongoing fascination with flow, pattern and the emotional resonance of organic form.
